CONVERTED CAR ABANDONED BADLY DAMAGED

Unlawfully removed from Tainui street, Greymouth, about 6 o’clock last night, a mddern sedan motor-car, owned by a Christchurch visitor, Mr A. McMillan, was located just before midnight, in a badly damaged condition.

The car had been driven north from Greymouth, on the main highway to Reelton. Between Spring creek and Kamaka it had left the road and crashed into the bank on the left-hand side of the road, When found by a party of Blackball residents returning from Greymouth, the car was on the edge of a 40-foot bank, with one of the front wheels spinning in the air. If it had gone a few feet further it must have plunged down the embankment to the railway line.

The car was restored to the road, with the aid of a tow-rope, but was found to be badly damaged’ as a result of colliding with the bank. Not only had the body work been broken and twisted but the chassis had been buckled.

Up until this afternoon, no trace had been found of the person responsible for the conversion of the car.
