SPORTING Coral Princess Will Be Favoured On Saturday

Coral Princess, who disappointed in her engagement on the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington, and was involved in the. smash on the second day will have a chance to make amends in the Cambridge Handicap at the New .Brighton meeting, which will be held at Addington on Saturday. This promising Pacing Power mare is trained by J. B. Pringle and she has shown more than average ability. She was confidently expected to play a part in the finish of the Metropolitan Stakes last Saturday and was 3-2 in the betting but was one of the first to come down in the smash which ruined the race.

The daughter of Lilian Bond is not yet partial to a two-mile journey, judged by her failing to stay on the first day of the national meeting, but she may be well suited to the mile and five furlongs of the Cambridge Handicap, in which she will start from the limit mark, with some other promising pacerj; in Hal Defby and Right Royal and one who raced prominently at the Addington meeting, Leonin.

Further back in the handicaps are Implacable, Indigo, Bobby Burns and Limerick Pride, with the latter one of the most likely runners to test Coral Princess. Howe for Avondale

Howe left Trentham yesterday for Avondale to fulfil his engagement in the Avondale Cup on Saturday, in which he will be ridden by W. J. Broughton. He has freshened up since racing at Riccarton, and is very fit. He has previously handled righthanded going at Auckland and is likely to be well supported for Saturday’s contest.

Wanganui Candidates Only eight Trentham-trained horses are engaged at Wanganui on Saturday. The stablemates, Lady Christine, Blue Pier, and Air Belle, went on to Wanganui from Foxton. Lady Christine is to have her first race as a three-year-old in the Flying Handicap on Saturday and will then contest the Guineas on the second day. Air Belle is an Airway —Temarua two-year-old filly which has been sent on the trip for educational purposes. She will have hei’ first race at Masterton, and will then contest the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham.

Bruce and Melbourne Cup The possibilities of Bruce being shipped direct to Melbourne on the Stafford, which is due to leave Lyttelton lor Melbourne on September 10, are being investigated. Both his owner, Mr Scott Ramsay, and his trainer, L. J. Ellis, would prefer this course as the only suitable alternative transport that seems likely to be available is on the Wahine which resumes on the trans-Tasman run this month. His trainer naturally prefers that the gelding travel on the larger ship, and at this stage the elimination of the additional journey from Sydney to Melbourne would be a decided advantage. New Sire for N.Z.

The first son of the successful English sire Bois Roussel to be bought for the stud in New Zealand has been acquired in England for the Glen Lyon Stud at Levin. He is the four-year-old Boissier, which won twice in seven starts as a three-year-old and has won once and been placed three times in his four starts this season. His successes have been at distances from, one mile and a quarter to one mile and three-quarters. His dam is Phalconia, by the sprinter Diomedes from Princess Charming, by Phalaris from Dolabella, by White Eagle from Gondolette, the dam of the Derby winner Sansovina, and the greatgranddam of Hyperion. Phalconia, the dam of Boissier, is a full-sister to Shalfleet, winner of 17 races and £9333 in stakes. Her dam, Princess Charming, was a half-sister to IVlyrobella, the dam of the Two Thousand Guineas winner Big Game, _ and granddam of the St Leger winner Chamossaire.
