Westport Sunshine
The rainfall recorded at the Westport signal station during August this year totalled 7.10 in, compared, with 10.13 in for August, 1946. Rain fell on 21 days last month, as against 25 days in August, 1946. Hours of sunshine recorded at the Carter’s aerodrome last month totalled 142.4. There were only five sunless days.
Children’s Cinema Clubs Parents and teachers will have an opportunity of assisting in a sixmonth survey of children’s cinema clubs in New Zealand which is expected to begin this, month. The New Zealand Film Institute is to conduct the survey with the cooperation of educational authorities. The institute hopes parents will give information of any way in which attendance at cintema clubs lias .affected their children’s behaviour, speech, and outlook. In the schools, teachers will ask children to vyrite essays, and to give talks on what they .have seen at the cinema clubs to which they belong,—(P.A.)
