GREATER EXPORT OF FISH FROM N.Z.
New Zealand’s export trade in fish and oysters is increasing. Last yea£231,234 worth of frozen, smoked, and tinned fish, fresh and tinned oysters, crayfish, whitebait, and m seis was sent overseas, compared with £187,381 worth in 1945 and £126,976 worth in 1944. Most of these fishery, products are exported to Australia. „ The annual report of the Ma ™ Department states that last yea 85,400 dozen fresh oysters and mo than five tons of tinned oysters were shipped overseas. Exports of fl ° fish, including blue cod, doundei, sole, schnapper, terakihi, led hapuku, and barracouta, totalled 1384 tons, and smoked and dried fish accounted for 130 tons. Other frozen products included 74 tons of crayfish 2* tons of mussels, and 1- tons oi W Exports of tinned fish and shellfish amounted to 20 tons and were valued at £66,618. They included 12 tons of whitebait, two tons oi toheroas, .16, tons of mussels, and 14 tons of crayfish. From Auckland, J 3l tons of clam.chowder were exported, and exports of other tinned fish totalled two' tons.
