Grey Competitions Festival Opened Today

The Greymouth Competitions Society commenced its 33rd annual festival in the Lyceum and Wesley Halls this morning. The festival will continue throughout the week, concluding with a demonstration concert in the Lyceum Hall on Friday. Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the attendances at both the Lyceum and Wesley halls were good today. The judges are—Vocal and instrumental: Mr L. H. Barnes (Christchurch); elocution, Mrs M. O’Sullivan (Christchurch); dancing, Miss B. Carnochan Results of this morning’s events are: Recitation Test, Girls under 10.— To be recalled: Anne McQuinn (Greymouth), Noela Perfect (Christchurch), Margaret Higgins (Greymouth); highly commended, Glenis Thomson (Ross); commended, Maxine Wicks (Greymouth), Judith Dench (Christchurch), Annette Brown (Greymouth).
