SPORTING Fine Performances At Addington By Nyallo Scott And Plunder Bar

[SPECIAL. TO STAR] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Plunder Bar, Nyallo Scott and Acclamation were the outstanding performers on the concluding day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington. Plunder Bar won the National Handicap with something in hand and returned a dividend of nearly a third of a century on the win machine. Nyallo Scott won the Free-for-All like a brilliant pacer, taking the lead with a round to go and then resisting a strong challenge from Emulous.

Acclamation, by the ill-fated Certissimus, won the Trotting Stakes in splendid style and recorded faster time than Rerewaka in winning the high class trotters’ free-for-all. Acclamation’s stylish victory emphasised further the loss which the death of Certissimus at an e;irly age has meant to New Zealand trotting.

Plunder Bar fairly outclassed a good field in the National Handicap and was full of running as he passed the finishing post. Gold Peg led at the end of the first half-mile from Local Gold, Trusty Scott and Aberhall, while Plunder Bar, who had begun well, was already in a handy position. Gold Peg continued to make the running from Trusty Scott, Local Gold, Plunder Bar and Jack’s Son, with Sir Michael and Warform also in the picture. At the half-mile post Plunder Bar commenced a run which took him round the field and to the front before the straight was reached. Never troubled in the run home, Plunder Bar won like a high-grade racehorse. Aberhall finished fast to take second place, ahead of Cameronian, Battle Colours, Nyallo Scott, War form and Trusty Scott. Pacers’ Free-for-AII L. F. Berkett, who recently broke a leg and has been unable to drive at the meeting, produced his second Free-for-All winner when Nyallo Scott won the August Pacing Free-for-All. Nyallo Scott, bracketed with Highland Fling, was favourite, but the public’s confidence was placed in the latter, which broke soon after the start. Trusty Scott and Loyal Nurse were first out, but the running was soon taken over by Battle Colours, which led from Turco, Haughty, 1

Acropolis, Dundee Sandy and Emulous. A little later Haughty pulled to the front from Battle Colours, Turco, Gold Bai’ and Emulous. With a round to go Nyallo Scott took over and was followed into the straight by Emulous, which put in a strng challenge, but could not quite reach Nyallo Scott, who won by half a length. Haughty, in third place, was followed home by Turco and Dundee Sandy. The winner is held on lease by L. F. Berkett from his breeder. Mr J. R. McKenzie, and was the leading stake-winner last season. Young Trotters Few of the starters in the Addington Trotting Stakes left the mark correctly and the race had not been long in progress before Flame, by Certissimus —Belle Lorimer, had a good lead from Conceit and Temple Star, both of which broke. Flame carried on well clear of Sandy Duval, by Quite Sure —Roydon’s Gift, Strayshot, Conceit, Temple Star and Acclamation. The last-named put in very fast work over the last round and three furlongs from home drew up to her stablemate. Acclamation trotted soundly for the rest of the journey and won comfortably from Flame, Sandy Duval, Great Venture, Temple Star and Conceit. The lastnamed pair showed plenty of speed but broke several times.
