BASKETBALL OPPONENTS FOR THE WEST COAST TEAM AT NELSON

The di'aw for the New Zealand tournament has been received. Oyer 60 teams have been entered. Playmg with West Coast, who have not been to the Dominion tournaments recently and will thus have to play in the third grade to qualify again for. second grade, are Buller, Hokitika, Otago Minor, Hawke’s Bay Minor and Kaikdura. Though the blazer material is available the manfacturers are unable to make the blazers in time for the tournament., so former representative players may be asked to lend blazers for the period of the tournament. Notes On Representatives D. Clarke.—An excellent attacking player who never seems to tire. As a forward her shooting has greatly improved this season, and her field work is always praiseworthy. G. Walker.—Has height, and shoots accurately as a forward, but lacks the attacking qualities of D. Clarke. Her passing and handling are excellent.

N. Patterson.—Generally an accurate shot; combines well with D. Clarke and G. Walker; could improve her attack.

K. Kennedy.—A newcomer to representative' honours, but shows promise; needs to speed up her game, and learn to change her tactics to suit her position. M. Heslop.—Captain; a reliable centre thrower-off; could improve field attack but handles well and follows the play well. N. Burgess.—Playing well this year; combines well with M. Heslop and M. Anderson and is always on the attack; handles well and anticipates accurately. M. Anderson.—Combines well with M. Heslop and N. Burgess; needs to open out her play more in the cen- s ire; has speed and should do well. J. Blackie.—A promising, hardworking new player, versatile and good on both attack Kind defence; with experience should reach much higher standard. T. Ptea.—A steady, reliable defender, who attacks with vigour and defends with accuracy; handles well; a promising player.’' I.
