1000-MILE AIR RACE ROUND SOUTH ISLAND
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A 1000-mile air race round the South Island, starting and finishing at Harewood, and lasting two days, is to be run by the Canterbury Aero Club in February next year. The race will be foi’ light aircraft on a handicap basis, and it is proposed that the winner should receive a cup and £5OO, while the second and third prizes will be £250 and £lOO. . The committee of the club decided to run the race after the scheme had been outlined by .the president (Mr H. D. Christie). Mr Christie said the proposal was that light aircraft should race from Harewood to Harewood, living down the east coast to Dunedin, and possibly Invercargill, and then back to Alexandra. From there the route would be across to Big Bay on the West Coast, and then on to Westport, Tophouse, Nelson, Blenheim, and back to Harewood. That would be approximately 1000 , miles for light aircraft on a handicap I basis, and there was a possibility that there would be an open class if suf- ' ficient entries were received.
