National Savings

The Dominion.-wide support accorded to the National Savings during recent months was again reflected last week in the attainment of 324 local quotas, representing 92 per cent, of those allotted. Two outstanding local achievements were those of Ohura and Waitomo Caves in the Hamilton district, each of which has more than trebled its local annual quota for the current financial year. Another pleasing feature is that the National Savings group movement continues to expand most promisingly, as evidenced by the formation of 148 new savings groups since April 1 last, against 57 secured for the corresponding period in 1946. With 4500 group depositors enrolled during the last four months, there are now 195,000 group pavers in the Dominion.
