Mr G C. Thompson, a member ol the staff of the Southland hospita , has been appointed bacteriologist to the Grey Hospital Board. m/j. Dodds, of Blackball, who had been appointed coach of the West Coast Rugby League team to tour the North Island this month, was admitted to the Grey Hospital today, as the result of a sudden illness. His condition this afternoon was reported to be fairly satisfactory. A vote of sympathy with a member of the board, Mr W. Fisher, in the recent death of his wife, was carried in silence by the Grey Hospital Board last evening. A motion 01. condolence with the relatives ol a former chairman of the board, the late Mr R. McTaggart, of Runanga, was also adopted. . Air Christopher Hales, Trinity College examiner in music, will arrive in & Nev/ Zealand from London on Friday. August 22. Baker (Hamilton). . ■ At last evening’s meeting of the Board of Control of the West Coast Rugby League a vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr John McElwee, of Reefton, whom the president, Mr B. F. Connors, described as a “grand personality in the League, code.” The secretary, Mr T. F. McKenzie, also ■paid a tribute to Mr McElwee, referring to the fact that he was one of three West Coast life members of the New Zealand Rugby League. Mr P. J'. McEnaney, who has resigned from the position of secretary of the Blaketown Home and School Association after five years’, service, was presented with a fireside chan at last evening’s meeting of the association. The president, Mr J. Walton, junr., Messrs W. H. Herring and M. K. B. Sheard (chairman and secretary of the school committee) and E. R Darracott (headmaster) all paid tributes to Mr McEnaney’s co-opera-tion and efficiency. Mr E. Mosley had been appointed to succeed Mr McEnaney as secretary of the association. _ ■ .._ i
