REEFTON SOUTHERLY STORM BRINGS HEAVY FALL OF SNOW

(0.C.) REEFTON, This Day. A southerly storm during Saturday brought a heavy fall of snow to the mountain tops around .Reefton, and the snow is much thicker on the tops than it has been for some weeks. The hills above Black’s Point were coated with snow on Saturday. There was heavy rain at Reef ton and outdoor sports on Saturday had to be abandoned. COAL OUTPUT REDUCED The coal output last week at the Reefton mines, was hampered by heavy rain and workmen at the opencast mines were compelled to cease work. The week’s output was 2747 tons, a decrease on the previous week's tonnage. BANDSMEN ATTEND FUNERAL The bandmaster (Mr H, L. Robinson) and other members of the Inangahua Silver Band visited Greymouth on Sunday to attend the funeral of Mr Alexander Sara. The family of Mr Sara has had playing connection with the band in Reefton for two generations.

McMahon Cup

The McMahon Cup competition was concluded on Sunday, Inangahua Junction being successful. The final points were as follows: —Junction 9, Waratah 7, Ikamatua 6, Cronadun 4, Waiuta 2, United 2. Junction’s success was a fitting reward for its keenness and enthusiasm. Its match against Cronadun was productive of much good play and the exhibition of both teams was as good as that shown in any other matches in the present season. The score of 13 to 3 was not a fair indication of the play, for Cronadun provided serious opposition to the competition leaders. The better team undoubtedly carried the day, however, and the country players should be difficult to dispose of in the challenge trophy play. It was unfortunate that injuries and sickness prevented the Waiuta Club from keeping its fixture with Waratah at Reefton, but this game did not affect the result of the cup competition as Junction won by a clear margin. Even Game United travelled to Ikamatua where an even game was played against the local team. The score of 3 to nil in favour of Ikamatua re-

flected the respective merits of the two teams.

The third grade fixture at Reefton between Junction and United was won by Junction by 9 to 6. Detailed results were as follows:— Senior: Junction 13, Crodadun 3; Ikamatua 3, United 0; Waratah won by default from Waiuta. Third grade: Junction 9, United, 6; Ikamatua a bye. The points in the third grade competition are as follows:—lkamatua 4, Junction 2, United 0.
