Not Today, Thank You
A courteous gesture by the King greatly pleased his native audience in Swaziland. . . He invested the Queen Mother with a silver commemorative medallion and in accordance with local custom placed the medallion and its red ribbon in her hands. The Queen Mother asked him to honour her by placing the ribbon round her neck, and there was much enthusiasm when the King did so. • She pointed out afterwards that the rain which had fallen in nice time to lay the dust had been caused by her, and she had also made it stop. “If you want rain in London,” she said, “I can make it come there, too.”. She was hastily assured that at the moment she need not put herself to the trouble.
