Mrs E. Robinson, of Cobden, returned last evening from a holiday in the North Island. Mr E. H. McElhinney, of Waimate, will arrive' tomorrow to take up the position of postmaster, Waiuta, succeeding Mr A. F. Osborn, who will leave on Saturday for Ashburton. , ± Mr B. T. Stanley, formerly traffic inspector, Railways Department, Greymouth, left this week on transfer to the position of assistant stationmaster at Lyttelton. Prior to his departure he was presented with a reading lamp by members of the West Coast staff. Reference to the deaths of Mr J. Smith (a former councillor) .and'Mr H. Hamer (a member for many years) was made at last evening’s meeting of the council of the West Coast branch of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) by the acting chairman, Mr T. Blabkie. Pope, of Runanga, took place today at Karoro cemetery. The services at the residence and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. A .K. Miller. The puipls of the Runanga school stood at attention outside the school as the funeral passed as a mark of respect to Mrs Pope, who was a former pupil.
