MINISTER SAYS HE CANNOT MAKE RAIN
“It is an act of God, and we must be patient in the meantime. I cannot do anything to help the position by sitting in my office in Wellington. I have business to conduct in other parts of the country and have left full instructions in Wellington." This was a statement by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, when interviewed this afternoon. Mr Semple said it was years since New Zealand had such a phenomenally dry spell. He could not make rain. Everything possible was being done to keep industry running and farms in production.
