BRITISH GOODS

SHIPMENT TO NEW ZEALAND WILL BE DELAYED EFFECT OF POWER CUTS LONDON, Feb. 13. The effect of the electricity cuts on supplies fox - New Zealand has already been noticed at New Zealand House. A representative of the stores and indents department, which places orders with British firms on behalf of the Government, said he had had a telephone.message from a big firm of paper - manufacturers to say that it had been obliged to close its factory with the result that deliveries due foxshipment this month to the Government Printer would be considerably curtailed. “We expect,” said a New Zealand House official, “that all manufactured goods will be similarly delayed. It is certain that telephone equipment will be affected since one of the principal firms of manufacturers closed down three factories, putting 15,000 people out of work. The delivery for shipment of heavy equipment such as switchboards, which were ready last month, will be held up, and we have not the slightest idea when it will go forward now. “The delivery of railway waggons may be put back by three to four months. We also expect delays in delivery from textile mills —in fact it is difficult to say what will not be affected. One result of the present position is that in future all contracts will not only be subject to the price ruling at the date of delivery and the availability of raw materials—but also to the availability of fuel.”
