Coal Position Serious In North

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Unless the coal position in the North Island improved rapidly, drastic curtailment of train schedules might be expected m the near future, according to railway officials. Other consumers expressed the opinion that the coal problem, although not yet critical, presented a latent threat to industry and essential services. The General Manager of Railways, Mr J. SaWers, had no comment to make on the coal s *^ tion, other than that it was still precarious. He was in conference yesterday with the Minister of Railways, Mr Semple.
