Mrs. W. D. Taylor left last evening for Dunedin. Messrs W. and D. Boyle, Kaiata, left this morning for Christchurch. Mr. W. Boyle has joined the Christchurch City Highland Pipe Band. • Mr. W. M. Thomas, manager of the Comercial Bank of Australia at Greymouth, is on annual leave and is being relieved by Mr. I. A. H. Symes, of Wellington. Guests at the Albion Hotel include Messrs A. Prenderville (Invercargill), F. Carson (Kaitangata), R. J. W. George, J. W. Glynn, A. Staples, R. S. O’Neill (Christchurch), W. N. W. R. Wilkins, J. G. Campbell, E 'A. Mills (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. Newbiggin (Milton), Dr. and Mrs. McLaurin, Messrs R. and B. McLaurin (Dannevirke). Mr. Alan Maxwell, railway shipping officer at Wellington, has retired after 40 years’ service vzith the Department. Mr. Maxwell is wellknown 'as an ex-boxer, a referee, and boxing writer. His career as a boxer started 40 years ago in New Plymouth, when under “Professor” Jack Stagpoole, he first donned the gloves, later to become New Zealand champion in the light-weight division. Mr. Maxwell was the first clerical member of the New Zealand Railways to be permitted to box as a professional. He boxed Mr. Frank O’Neill, of Gieymouth, at Greymouth, on one occasion, being defeated. — (P.A.)
