WOOL FOR JAPAN
LARGE PURCHASE FROM AUSTRALIA TOKIO, February 10. Arrangements have been completed under which the occupation authorities will buy 120,000 bales of burry topmaking wool from Australia at £25a bale. Officials expect the first shipment of 30,000 bales will arrive in March. If the.wool arrives before the end of March it will prevent the closing down of Japanese mills which are rapidly running out of stocks. The mills with their present equipment can handle three times the expected imports if prices on the world markets remain fairly stable. The occupation authorities expect to be able to pay for the imported wool by exporting one-third in manufactured products and the Japanese will consume the remainder. The exports will all go to nearby Asiastic markets which are starved for cloth.
