Keen Rivalry For Trophies

Greymouth Chib s Points Competition With only a few more club meetings to be held, the points competition in the Grey Athletic Club has reached an interesting stage and in some cases only small margins separate the leading competitors. There will be keen competition during the next few weeks, particularly as the trophies awarded for the winners this year have been considerably increased in value. The following was the position at the conclusion of last evening’s meeting:— Senior Sprints: K. Perrin 23; B. J. Guerin 201: P. Conaghan 121. Distance Events: J. Fitzgerald 20; A. Roper 15: D. The youthful Runanga distance runner, G. Watson, gave a high class display at the Greymouth Athletic Club’s meeting at Victoria Park last evening when he won the junior 660 yards. Conceding the field generous starts, this small athlete was still well behind with little over 200 yards to go, but he produced a sustained sprint that won him victory on the post. His effort was a particularly game one as he appeared to be in a hopeless position when he commenced his sprint. The win was greeted with applause by the group of spectators at the tape. ” Conditions were first class for the meeting, and interest wav increased by the participation of the wellknown Air Force athlete, J. Tagelagi, who was Canterbury javelin champion last year. Starting from the one yard mark in the senior 75 yards dash, Tagelagi did not qualify for the final. He was recently in hospital. Tagelagi’s display with the javelin, however, was particularly interesting. The following are the results: — Senior Men
