BOWLING White’s Four Still Unbeaten

I Unbeaten fours in addition to those already mentioned are Wardrop (Victoria), Corby (Ellerslie), Mitchell (Blenheim), Higgison (Featherston), Gardner (Invercargill), McClymont (Ponsonby), Reid (Masterton), Clinkard (St. John’s), Walker (Gisborne), Watts (Hataitai), Fleming (Newtown), Spurdie (Inglewood), Henry (Sydenham), Reid (Lyall Bay), Johnson (Port Ahuriri), Adams (Karori), Fuller (Waitara), Barton (Kia Toa, Hastings), Mclnnes (Temuka), Dyson (Hallyburton Johnstone), Bell (Patea), Raffles (Onehunga), Field (Karori), la Frenz (Maitai), Hawkins (Paritutu), Wyatt (Karori), Cullen (Thorndon), McCullough (Carlton), Lambess (Whahgarei), and Claridge (St. Kilda). J. J. Bell (Patea) played the. greatest number of ends in one match so far in the tournament against Woburn. On the twenty-fifth end the. score was 21 each. Three extra ends were required before Bell got the winning shot. Spearman was beaten by C. Haworth (Wanganui East), a son of R. Haworth (Canterbury).

White Has Hard Fight. White’s champion Runanga four had a hard fight with Clarkson (Fendalton).. White led by 25-24 after the twenty-fourth end. On the twenty-fifth end Clarkson lay two. Armstrong, the Runanga No. 3, killed the end. On the replay Clarkson secured one to level the scores. The extra head saw some brilliant bowls. Two touchers by Ussher, Clarkson s lead, were displaced by Gourlay, No. 2 for Runanga, with a beautiful bowl. Runanga was I up when the skip went back, and Clarkson was unable to alter the position, White winning by one point. O’Neill (Runanga) led Fleming (Newtown) by three when the twenty-fifth end began. The latter scotched four to win. Althougn O’Neill is still playing for his old club, he is now a resident of AuckDickson’s Khandallah four, which reached the final 12 last year lost one match to Bennett (Hastings), but showed excellent, form in other games.
