“What Are Those Things, Daddy"
In line with the stories of British children tasting their first bananas at the age of five is one related 1 by an Aucklander who took his family south foi’ the holidays. When passling a confectionery shop in Wellington, his four-year-old son asked — “What are those things, Daddy” The “things” were liquorice straps, which the child had never previously seen.
