Mr. James A. Ryan, of Rotomanu, who has been a patient at the Grey Hospital, has returned home. Mr W. Upton, who has been • a railways guard at Greymouth for the past 13 years, left this morning on transfer to Kaikoura. He was met by fellow members of the traffic staff of the Railways Department at Greymouth prior to his departure and was presented with a wallet of notes. The presentation was made by Mr W. H. Preston, who deputised for the stationmaster, Mr A. L. Shand. Mr. Anton Vogt, of Wellington, has been appointed organiser of the United Nations’ Association of New Zealand. Plans are being made to set up new branches throughout the country. The association, formerly the League of Nations Union, has been completely reorganised since the war. It has the active support of leading political figures, including, in Great Britain, Mr. Churchill and Mr. Attlee. Guests at the Albion Hotel include; Messrs L. W. Tarman, D. Phillip, Binz, D.
