Reefton district coal mines in the 10 months from April 1, 1946, to date, have produced over 100,000 tons of coal, the total consigned from the Reefton railway station in that period being 100,701 tons, which is in addition to household and other coal supplied direct from the mines to district consumers.' In the week ended February 8, 1947, the mines produced 2317 tons of coal, foi' consignment. This was an increase of 457 tons on the previous week's, total. EFFECTS OF DRY SPELL. The dry spell continues and in the last 29 days, these has only been one slight fall of rain, a recording of 14 points. No difficulty is being experienced with the Reefton town water supply, as although the intake from the Auld’s creek supply, and from the Eutt’s hill water-race are at low levels the reservoir supplies can be kept well in hand by the use of the electric stand-by pump, which has recently been changed over to the new electric power supply. Recent alterations give the pump a capacity of 12,500 gallons an hour, which ensures ample water to supply the needs of the town and build up the levels in the reservoirs. NEW TELEPHONE BOX.
