DOMINION CONVENTION AT (IREYMOUTIT The first post-war convention of New Zealand amateur radio enthusiasts will be held at Greymouth next week-end when about 100 members of the New Zealand Amateur Radio Transmitters’ Association will meet. All parts of New Zealand with the exception of the Auckland district will be represented. The last of the 70 visitors will arrive by Saturday’s express and the convention will open with a banquet at Harker’s lounge in the evening. A member of the Greymouth Borough Council will preside. Apart from toasts and items there will be various technical discussions and a feature will be a transmitter building contest in which competitors will -be given a box of parts and asked to construct a transmitting instrument. The visitors and members of the local branch will visit Lake Kanieri on Sunday for a picnic and field day with ZCI (army style) transmitters. These will be used to communicate with various New Zealand stations as well as receiving sets in overseas countries. On the return of the party from Lake Kanieri the local branch will conduct the visitors on a “shack-visiting tour,” in which various amateur radio stations m Greymouth will be inspected. The function, which will be the first gathering of radio enthusiasts since the war. will conclude on Monday when visits will be made to the Liverpool State coal mine at Rewanui and to the gold-dredge and sawmill at Ngahere,
