WASTE MATERIALS

SURPLUS MONEY DIVIDED BETWEEN BODIES GREYMOUTH DONATIONS The National Council . for Reclamation of Waste Materials which operated throughout the war years, has made an allocation of £36/17/9 from its surplus funds to the Greymouth branches of the Red. Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Brigade. This sum has been divided so that the Red Cross will receive £lB/9/- and the St. John Ambulance Brigade £lB/8/9. In a letter received by Mr F. H. Denton, secretary of the local branch of the council, this morning. Mr J. W. Collins, chairman of the National Council, stated that the committee, with the consent of the Minister of Supply, had decided to allocate the last credit earned by the disposal of waste to both the bodies mentioned in each of the localities # concerned. Out of general credits earned it was agreed, in addition to a. credit of £l5 odd carried forward from the 1946 account, to allocate a further sum of £2l/9/4, making a total of £36/17/9 for Greymouth. “The council is .pleased to make this grant in recognition of the work done by you, your chairman, Mr. W. F. Harley especially, and your associates in the work of waste reclamation generally,” added the letter. “As the Patriotic Fund was closed and our regulations were cancelled, it was deemed desirable to dispose of the credit to the two bodies referred to. Indeed, it was regarded as a privilege to recognise their splendid and close association with New Zealand’s war effort and to acknowledge the outstanding voluntary work that has been done and is still being done by St. John and Red Cross for our ex-servicemen and ex-service-women.”
