REEFTON BURKE’S CREEK MINE IMPROVEMENTS
(C.C.) REEFTON, Feb. 7. The installation of a new electric haulage winch at the Burks’s Creek State mine, Reefton, has been completed and the necessary safety tests were carried out by the district Inspector of Machinery early this week. A trolley has been fitted to the main haulage rope and this is to be used for transport of the men, removing the need for the underground workers to walk up and down the Hong dip. Twenty men will use the trolley each trip. The winch which is powered with a lOOh.p. motor was built at the Dispatch Foundry, Greymouth. It commenced operations yesterday and will result in a marked improvement in haulage from ,the main dip. i OBITUARY Following a long illness, the death has occurred at the residence of her son, Felix (Wellington) of Mrs Catherine Paul, widow of Mr Albert Paul. Born in Australia, Mrs Paul, with her husband came to reside in the Inangahua district almost 40 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband seven years ago and she is survived by two sons, Messrs James and Felix Paul (Wellington) and four daughters, Mesdames C. Shutt and J. Etheridge (Reefton). Mrs J. Maher (Niue Island) and Miss A. Paul (Wellington).
