Death Of Fine Brood Mare

The death occurred in Southland this week' of the Paper Money mare Francolin, a very prolific and successful brood mare. Her progeny won 50 races and £14,877 in stakes. She was in foal to Lo Zingaro at the time of her death. Francolin was bred in 1926 by Mr. I. G. Duncan, and she was a brilliant galloper.. She raced (in the colours of Mr. R. M. Greenslade, who had her first three foals. In 1936 Francolin, with Ortyx as a foal at foot, was sold to Mr. D. M. Tweedie, of Riverton, who raced Ortyx and bred and raced al! hei other foals.
