Chartering the Acquitania.
“Negotiations with the CunardWhite Star Line for chartering the liner Aquitania for the migration run between Britain and Australia have been virtually completed,” said the Australian Minister of Immigration (Mr. A. A. Calwell). “The liner, on present advices, could leave on the initial voyage about the middle of May and bring migrants to Australia for two years. In .her present condition the Aquitania could transport 2000 persons, making four trips a year, but strong representations are being made for an increase to at least 3000 persons each trip. An extension of the charter beyond two years will be considered in the light of the circumstances then existing.”—Canberra, February ,6.
