SINGAPORE CRIME
BUSINESSMEN SEEK MORE PROTECTION (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) SINGAPORE, February 6. To check the wave of strikes and crime sweeping the island the Singapore Association, comprising mostly of the city’s businessmen, has appealed to the Governor to form a volunteer police force of at least 200 Europeans. The association states there appears to be no control over the strikes of unions and that the community is continually at the mercy of greedy or irresponsible strikers who tend to become criminal resulting in shop and office breaking and pocket-picking.
