REEFTON TENDERS TO BE CALLED

PRELIMINARY WORK ON NEW HOSPITAL (0.C.) REEFTON, Feb. 6. Following receipt of a report at a special meeting of the inangahua Hospital Board last evening, it was decided to request the board’s architect (Mr. W. H. Trengrove) to call tenders immediately for the building of the nurses’ home, domestic quarters, and the boiler house and laundry. Messrs F. W. Archer and A. Topp who visited Wellington as a deputation from the board to meet the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) and the Minister of Health (Mr. Nordmeyer) concerning the building of the new hospital, and the question of finance for the buildings, made their report. This showed that the plans and specifications for the main hospital block would be completed by the architect early next month, and that when departmental approval was obtained the board could have tenders called for the erection of the main hospital block. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Health had given the deputation a favourable reception, and an assurance had been given that the questio'n of finance would be settled to the satisfaction of the board. COAL INDUSTRY CONFERENCE Members of the Inangahua Coal Mine Owners’ Association met representatives of Miners’ Unions and the coal lorry drivers at Reefton concerning the handling and consignment of coal from Reefton district mines at the Reefton loading bank. It was decided to plan a roster of hours for loading at the bank to assist the Railways Department and to provide better service for the lorry drivers. The meeting decided that the Miners’ Unions and the Coal Mine Owners’ Association meet the Coal Council, at Reefton on February for a discussion concerning the industry in the Reefton district.
