CHINESE AIR COMMANDER’S CLAIM DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTED (Rec. 2.10 p.m.) PEKING, February 5. General Chou Chih-Jou, commander of China’s air force, who has just returned from Suchow, told the press: “The Communists ' have fallen into a fatal situation in Shantung province, which might result in clarification of the whole war within a week.” It is also reported that Government troops are within six miles of Schowff, which is the seat of the Communist strength in mountainous southern Shantung. Press dispatches report increasing Communist pressure on Shanai province. The Communists are isolating Fauchow, a large city 70 miles southwest of Taiyuan, and conditions in central Shanai have become worse. The Communists have destroyed a large section of the Peking-Hankow railway.
