Handsome Yearling Colt At Omoto

A handsome yearling colt by Nizami from Skyrena is the pride of M. Conza’s team at Omoto. The youngster, a chestnut, was bred by Conza, and was offered at the recent yearling sales at Trentham, but he did not reach the reserve of 2000 guineas placed upon him. The Canterbury Jockey Club, will hold its autumn meeting on EasterMonday, April 7, Tuesday, April 8, and Saturday, April 12. The stakes for the three days will total £20,650, compared with £lB,OOO last year, an increase of £2650. The two principal handicaps, the Great Easter and Great Autumn, will have the same stakes as last year, £2OOO and £2500 respectively. The Champagne and Challenge Stakes have been increased from £775 to £1250; Sockburn Handicap, £750 to £1250; Tasman Stakes, £lOOO to £1250; Autumn Nursery, Templeton, and Waltham Handicaps, £750 to £1000; Christchurch and Merivale Handicaps, £5OO to £600; and the two hurdle races, £450 to £5OO.

Important Changes An - important change has been made in the Great Easter and GreatAutumn Handicaps to be run at the C.J.C. autumn meeting. This year nominations for these two races will be delayed till general entry day on March 21. The weights for the Great Easter will appear on March 26, along with the other handicaps for the first day, and the only acceptance will close on March 31. The weights for the Great Autumn will appear on the morning of Wednesday, April 9, along with the other third day handicaps, and the only acceptance will be taken at 5 o’clock on the same evening. In place of a special condition for these two races, they will now be subject to the club’s general conditions, applying to all handicaps, under which winners after the declaration of weights may be rehandicapped.

Racing at Omoto . , Lady Indiana, which finished m third place, to Becky Loyal and Sandy Drive in the first division of the 2min 59sec class pace at the matinee meeting at Addington on Tuesday, is trained at Papanui by T. Gleeson, who will take her and Double Deck to the Kumara Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. A three-year-old filly, Lady Indiana, is by Gamble from Queen Author, which left a winner in Quite Game to Quite Sure. Double Deck, which races in the interests of Mrs F. Clemence and 1 C. Marcantelli, is a four-year-old gelding by Jack Potts from Rose de Orc*, which is by Rey de Oro from Dandy Rose, by Wildwood Jnr. from Rose D, by Rothschild from the Cycle mare, Daisy D.
