PRODUCTION OF FOOD
PROPOSALS OF EMERGENCY COUNCIL SPEEDING DISTRIBUTION WASHINGTON, Feb. 2. The International Emergency Food Council, in an effort to speed the world production and distribution of scarce foods, has decided to recommend: (1) That member Governments review their probable production and needs to hasten agreement on distribution; (2) that the International Emergency Food Council committee, in addition to suggesting food allocations, recommend methods to aid production; and (3) that detailed allocation recommendations be made as. quickly as possible. The council also decided to form a seven-member committee to streamline the organisation and co-ordinate it with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation. The United States Agriculture Department has allocated 1,500,000 tons of grain for export in March. This is the largest allocation since the middle of 1945. ■ ~ , Britain will receive the bulk of the exports, namely 42,500 tons of wheat, 16,000 tons of flour, and 25,500 tons of corn. Her Pacific possessions will get 38,000 tons of flour, 17,000 tons of grain and sorghums, and India 51,000 tons of wheat, 10,000 tons of flour, and 17,000 tons of grain.
