STERLING EXCHANGE AT NEW HIGH LEVEL
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. Sterling exChange reached the new high level of £94,572,741 (£92,628,071 the previous week), according to the Reserve Bank return for the week ended January 29. miningTnews Austral N.Z. Mining.—The company’s report from Cromwell is that 259 hours were worked, producing 485 ounces of bullion for the period of 14 days ended February I.—(P.A.) Silver Price. — The price of silver fell by Hid. to-day. The last price for silver, fine spot and forward was 4/71, and to-day’s price is 3/B.— London, February 3. Slab Hut Creek.— Because of lack of water and repair work there was no wash-up for the week ended January 31. COMPANY NEWS Taranaki Brewery. — Taranaki Brewery and Cordials, Ltd., New Plymouth, showed a net profit ot £6528, an increase of £3942, for the yea rended August 31. Gioss earnings, at £25,275, were the best since 1942. Dividend was raised from 6 per cent, to 7 per cent., absorbing £l4OO and £lOOO was placed to rebuilding reserve. The carry-for-ward was increased by £4128 to £6341.
