Breaking-up Steamer Duchess.
The former Auckland excursion
steamer Duchess, which is lying at anchor with other surplus war vessels near Pine Island, will be handed over by the Marine Department to Mr. F. Appleton, who purchased her from the War Assets Realisation Board for breaking-up. The vessel will be brought down to one of the Auckland city wharves for the work. . The 308-ton steamer, which is 50 years old, had nearly six years’ service with the Royal New Zealand Navy. After many years as a Wellington 1 ferry steamer, the Duchess went to Auckland in 1932 and was used as a pleasure steamer on the Aucklahd-M'atia-tia-Kawau.run,
