Kirkella Expected to Race Well [SPECIAL TO STAR.] CHRISTCHURCH, December 4. Kirkella appears as an acceptor for both hack events at Riccarton next Saturday, and it is probable he be raced in the Ashley Handicap, over a mile and a quarter. He nas shown every indication of staym» ability, and as he will have the services of a stronger horseman than he had in the Apprentices’ Handicap on the first day, he will no doubt oe in keen demand. Privilege, appears to be hancuiy placed in the Members’ Handicap with 7.8. She was palpably in need of a race when she contested the New Zealand Oaks last Saturday, and v/ith -a couple of smart gallops this week, she will be in the right order by Saturday. Privilege will be up against some high class sprinting talent, but she is capable of holding her own. , Lincoln Fair shaped poorly on tne hard ground last Saturday and moved scratchily yesterday. She has

been accepted for in the Hagley Handicap, but unless the ground is more yielding than last week, she will not be produced. Signal Officer will not be a starter at Riccarton on Saturday. He was in good order yesterday, but was lame when taken out of his box this morning. It will not be known for a few days whether his proposed trip to Ellerslie will be undertaken. Joygiver was taken back to Winga-. tui after racing on New Zealand Cup day, and- is to return for the Fendalton Handicap next Saturday. He did not race up to expectations in the cup, but .as he had not had a race for some weeks, he can be expected to improve. He showed his class on several occasions in the south over mile and a quarter jqurneys, and with 8.9 next Saturday he will no doubt carry plenty of southern support.
