WORKMAN KILLED
ACCIDENT AT RAILWAY TUNNEL TWO OTHERS INJURED (P.A.) WANGANUI, Nov. 4. One man was killed and two seriously injured when a work tram carrying workmen into the Turakina railway deviation tunnel crashed into an empty spike barrel, which was lying in the middle of the track early this morning. The victims were: KILLED. Panau Tamati, married, of Ratana. INJURED. Peter Edwards, of Ratana. Warn Mete, of Ratana. The accident occurred when a diesel locomotive was pushing two trolleys carrying workmen into the tunnel. The leading trolley struck an empty barrel but remained on the track. The second trolley was derailed, Mete and Edwards being thrown under the locomotive _ and Tamati thrown to the side of the track.
