Unexpected Visitor to Labour Meeting

An unexpected visitor at the first meeting of the Labour candidate for Tamaki at Orakei, Auckland, the National candidate, Brigadier J. G. C. Wales entered the hall during the chairman’s opening remarks and shook hands with his political opponent, Mr. T. E. Skinner. Brigadier Wales introduced himself to the meeting and said he -wanted to shake hands with Mr. Skinner, to say that the campaign was National against Labour, not Wales against Skinner, and to wish good luck to the best man. On Brigadier Wales'-departure, the chairman, Mr. H. Campbell, said it was a good gesture by the National Party, but Brigadier Wales should not have “butted in” while the chairman was opening the meeting. However, he would receive his deserts on November 27.
