THE WEATHER Forecast: Mainly Fair

The following weather forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon to-day:— Situation: A ridge of high pressure is moving on to the South Island; a depression is advancing across the northern Tasman Sea.

Forecast to 5 p.m. to-morrow: Moderate, variable winds; southeasterlies predominating tomorrow; weather cloudy to overcast, with occasional showers today; mainly fair to-morrow; temperatures rather cool. Further outlook: Probably showery again. ..LOCAL RECORDINGS 9,a.m.: barometer, 29.71 inches (1006 millibars); thermometer, 51; wind, north-west (light air); sky, overcast with intermittent drizzle; bar, considerable swell; rainfall, 0.10 inches.
