Fast Times Recorded al Riccarton [SPECIAL TO STAR.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 17. A strong wind again favoured fast limes at Riccarton to-day. The trial grass was open, but as this has become very hard, the plough was in most use. Wild Range opened proceedings by walloping seven furlongs on the plough in 1.29 3-5, the first four in 50 3-5, and his stable-mate, Grand Melee, ran five furlongs in 1.4. Leigh Barton and Palm Bearer were restricted to strong work from the mile post, coming home the last three furlongs in 39 3-5. Privilege covered seven furlongs in 1.34, Sanskrit accompanying her over the last five in 1.6. Beautiful galloped six furlongs in 1.19 2-5, the first three in 38 1-5. Confusion sprinted three furlongs home in 35 3-5, and Finalist and Morning Watch took 38 3-5. Montezuma and Regal Lily reeled off five furlongs in 1.2 3-5., the lasi four in 49 1-5. Denim and Miss Mercury ran six •furlongs in 1.18, the last four in 52.

mid Bittersweet beat Nightchild in 1.19.

Golden Souvenir Well. Golden Souvenir and Detain went off together from the mile post, and were joined at six furlongs by Bruce. Detain was eased off passing the half mile and Golden Souvenir completed the journey a neck in front of Bruce in 1.46 2-5. the last three in 37 1-5, and the last half in 52. Golden Souvenir went exceptionally well without being seriously called upon. Kirkella attracted notice by galloping five furions in 1.2 1-5, the last three in 35 4-5. Sorry beat Stately Lady over five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, the last three in 38 4-5. These-two Nightly fillies will represent Mr. G. Murray-Aynsley at forthcoming meetings. Hart Royal and Queen’s General were companions over six furlongs in 1.16 3-5, the last three in 38 3-5. Legal Rose and Legal Right ran half a mile in 51, and Philary beat Stabilisation over five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. On the Grass. . Penetrate and Scotch Tweed ran home five furlongs in 1.3 2-5, the last four in 49 2-5. Paper Robe, slow to move off, recorded 48 for half a mile. There is no doubt about the speed of this two-year-old Paper Slipper filly. Inability to get away well ruined her chances of getting any money at Dunedin. Double Cross covered a mile in 1.44, the second half in 51 1-5. He is likely to be favourite for Saturday’s big event at the Geraldine fixture. Sedgmere, a much improved horse, galloped six furlongs comfortably in 1.15 3-5, the last four in 50. Spring Water and Gay Joy went over the same ground in 1.17. Spiora and Post Graduate reeled off half a mile in 47 2-5. ’Siegwood took 52 2-5 for this journey. The stablemates, Irish Note and Blue Trout, will be missing from the Awapuni meeting. The former has had a recurrence of his old trouble, and it is doubtful if he will be seen out again for some time. Blue Trout’s ailment, which was thought to be a jarred joint, has proved to be more deep-rooted, and it has been decided to retire her to her owner’s stud at Oamaru.
