Close Decisions Against West Coasters [SPECIAL TO STAR.] AUCKLAND, Sept. 24. In the first round of the featherweight bout between B. Eder (West Coast) and M. Whittingham (Manawatu), the North Islander was aggressive, but Eder met him toe-to-toe, using both gloves freely to the body and head, and slowing Whittingham up. Eder took the round. In the second round Whittingham made a further onslaught, but Eder met him with straight lefts and short rips to the body. Eder took the offensive and Whittingham faded, but came back and went for a knockout. Eder was too clever, but slipped to the canvas at the gong. It was an even round. In the third round Whittingham made his usual onslaught and Eder slipped to the canvas on one knee, but did not take a count. Whittingham went after a knock-out, but Eder evaded him. Whittingham was all-out to win and was very aggressive. Eder landed a heavy right and three lefts prior to the gong. The decision went to Whittingham by a narrow margin. Tuck (West Coast), 9.13, met H. Hanson, 10.6 a, the Wellington champion, and a"rugged fighter. Both mixed heavy punches, with Hanson the stronger and more aggressive, but Tuck evaded him and prior to the gong Tuck carried the fight to Hanson and scored with lefts and rights to the body. It was an even round. In the second round Tuck forced his heavier opponent to the ropes, where there was some fast milling. Hanson then forced Tuck on to the ropes. Tuck landed a right to Hanson’s jaw, but Hanson was very aggressive and swung a hard right to Tuck’s head and missed with another which was meant for a knock-out. In the third round both were like punching machines. Hanson missed with some, but connected with others. Tuck boxed cleverly. They were toe-to-toe at the gong. The decision in favour of Hanson met with a mixed reception, but it was correct. Eoth Greymouth boxers gave creditable performances.

Proposed Tour of South Africa (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 23. A report on the proposed tour of South Africa by a team of New Zealand amateur boxers was presented by the secretary, Mi - G. P.
