Brunner Deserved Its Final Try
Although it was only in the final two minutes of the match at Wingham Park that Brunner secured the winning try against Kohinoor, thus to take the Challenge Cup, as well as eliminating Kohinoor from the knock-out, it would have been unlucky to have lost. For almost all of .the second half Brunndr, two points down, hammered at the Kohinobr line, but the Kohinoor defence held until the last few minutes, when A. Bernard foiled a gap. The water-logged ground and greasy ball upset the backs on both sides. In the loose, the Brunner forwards, led by R. Lee, held the advantage, but Kohinoor did well in the tight play. C. Hines (a'recruit from the Rugby code), L. Sweetman, and McKenzie were the best 0.1 the Kohinoor backs, with Laugcson, Hoskins, and Messenger showing out in the forwards,. McKenzie opened - the scoring by kicking a penalty from 35 yards out, and Kohinoor went further into the lead when Hines, after making a good opening, accepted a return from Longley and scored near the posts. McKenzie converted. Just before half-time, Lee gained ground with a dribbling rush and D. Williams secured from a five-yard scrum to score under the posts and conveit. Half-time score was: Kohinoor 7, Brunner 5. . Territorially, Brunner held the advantage throughout the second half, but it was not until two minutes before the bell that, after some good passing among the backs, A. Bernal d crossed in the corner. Lee s kick missed, and the- game ended: Brunner 8, Kohinoor 7. Mr. P. Sweetman was referee. Matches in England LONDON, Sept. 22.
