WRESTLING McCready Beats Meller

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. After one of the most rousing wrestling matches of the season, Earl McCready, British Empire heavy-weight champion, inflicted the first defeat he has suffered in New Zealand, on Herb Meller (U.S.A.), in the Wellington Town Hall to-night. Meller gained the first fall with his specialty hold, the atomic drop, a type of back slam following a headlock. After this, with all-in tactics, Meller so roused McCready that the latter picked up and dumped his opponent heavily five times in the fifth round for a fall, leaving him prostrate, and unable to continue. McCready was awarded the match. Blom field Disqu alifi ed (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 19. Fred Atkins (17st 21b), of Australia, beat “Lofty” Blomfiold in a wrestling match, the latter being disqualified in the fifth round for refusing to release Atkins from an octopus clamp.
