(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 18. Darcy Hoffman (12.6), Invercargill, knocked out Norman Ross (11.9). of Bluff, in the ninth of a ten-round professional boxing contest to-night. Ross was knocked off his feet nine times in eight rounds. Hoffman is a Merchant Navy seaman’who has just returned from England, where he had considerable success in professional bouts. Jack Kirkham, the Australian middleweight, who was beaten earlier in the year by Jack McCann, rehabilitated himself when he beat Henry Robertson on points in a 12rounds bout at the Civic Theatre this evening. The attendance was affected by rough weather.' but those present were' treated to a splendid exhibition of clean, open boxing. Kirkham, weighing list 61b, had a good advantage in height and reach over Robertson (list 21b). In practically every round Kirkham carried the fight to his opponent, and at the end of the 12 rounds he had a clear margin of points in his favour. Grant Defeats Fuller (P.A.) WANGANUI, Sept. 10. A professional lightweight boxing contest between Bobby Fuller and Joe Grant, both of Australia, last night ended suddenly in the fourth round with the decision for Grant, when Fuller was declared unfit to continue after an examination by a doctor. He lost a tooth and received a severe gash on the lower lip when he made a heavy lunge at Grant, the gash requiring thre stitches. Louis Favoured hi Title Bout NEW YORK, September 18. It is expected that 30,000 persons will pay 300,000 dollars to see the world heavy-weight title 'bout between Joe Louis and Tami Mauricllo at the Yankee Stadium. Mauriello, at 23, is nine years younger than Louis. He has had more fights and boasts of more knockouts than Louis, but the opinion is general that only stark carelessness on the part of Louis will jeopardise his title. The official weights are: Louis 21111 b, Mauriello 1981. Louis’s weight is heavier than for any of his previous fights.

’ The team to represent the AVest Coast at the New Zealand amateur boxing championships, to be held at Auckland next week, left Greymouth by express this morning. The boxers, J. Boddy, M. Tuck, and B. Eder, were accompanied by Messrs.. R. Hall (manager), J. Finlay (trainer), and N. Kiely.
