WESTPORT SHIPPING STATISTICS FOR AUGUST

During August 26 steamers and one auxiliary sailer, representing a tonnage of 12,715, entered the port of Westport. Twenty-seven steamers and one auxiliary vessel sailed from the port during the month, the tonnage being 12,323, making the total tonnage for the month 25,038. Mean high water in the river was 24ft and on the bar 23ft 3in. These depths were the most satisfactory for a long time. The visitors’ fourball bogey was won by C. F. Schadick and C. Petersen (Westport), with a card ot 7 up. The trade fourball bogey was won by L. J. Moorhouse and A. C. Keell (Christchurch), 4 up, from A. Pain (Westport) and G. D. Varnham (Lyttelton), 3 up. The retailers’ championship was won by A. H. Stevenson, who won the While Horse Cup.
