AMERICAN PLANE TIMED AT 611 M.P.11. NEW YORK, September 17. The American Army announced that the Thunderjet Republic XP 84 was timed unofficially at 619 miles an hour arid officially at 611 miles an hour over the three-kilometre course at Muroc (California). The statement added that a further assault on the international sneed record is in the offing. The attempt to better the British mark of 616 miles an hour failed by five miles an hour.
