HOSPITAL PLANS NOT YET COMPLETED

Following discussion on the question of the proposed new hospital buildings at Reefton the Inangahua District Progress League passed the following resolution last evening:— “The league is of the opinion that the lack of final plans for the buildings is holding the work up, and asks that the Hospital Board press for the early completion of the plans so that they may be sent to the Department of Health for aproval.” The chairman reviewed the work of the league in bringing before the authorities the urgency of commencing work on the new hospital buildings at Reefton-. The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) had promised to have an early decision made on the question of finance for the hospital, but no further advice had been received concerning either the finance or the approval of the plans. Minister’s Letter.

A letter from the Minister of Health in reply to one sent by the Inangahua County Council concerning the hospital was considered. In this the Minister claimed that toe Hospital Board was at fault and that the plans for the hospital had not all been received in Wellington for the Health Department’s approval. Mr. J. Banks said that to date the Hospital Board had not received consent for the raising of the loan for the buildings from the Loans Board. The Hospital Board had pressed for the completion of the working plans for the hospital, but the architect had not been able to have these finished, though he (the architect) had definite advice from the board that the plans on completion should at once be sent to the Health Department for approval. Mr. C. Coxall asked that the league support the Reefton Fire Brigade in an effort to have the film unit of the Tourist and Publicity Department visit Reefton during the West Coast Fire Brigades’ demonstration, so that the events at the demonstration could be filmed. Local industries could also be filmed during the visit.—lt was decided to support the request. Footpaths and Parking. It was decided to ask the Inangahua County Council to make an improvement to the footpaths and motor parking area at the Criterion picture theatre. It was stated that the present parking area was a danger to pedestrian traffic. The chairman, referring to the resignation of Mr. A. O. Stanley from the executive, asked lor a recommendation for the filling of the vacancy.—No recommendation was made and the executive will make the appointment. The Rev. C. R. Sprackett reported on the steps that had been taken to have a publicity booklet for the Inangahua County prepared. The treasurer (Mr. S. C. Robinson) reported an improvement in the league membership and also in the finances following a canvass by Messrs C D. Curtis and F. Rollerson. There was now a credit balance of over £4O. , Thanks were expressed to Messrs. Curtis and Rollerson for their work. POST OFFICE IMPROVEMENTS. An outdoor after-hour telephone box for the Reefton Post Office has been completed, and the telephone was installed last week-end. The box has now been brought into use for the public to make telephone calls from the Reefton office when the counter 13 HEADMASTER. It is expected that the Reefton High School Committee will this week be able to make a decision concerning a new headmaster for the Reefon District High School. The Nelson Education Board was to meet on Monday last to consider applications for the position, and the selection of a number for submission to the comrm+fpp The appointee will probably not commence duty until November. In the meantime, Mr. C. M. Harns, senior assistant, is acting headmaster.
