TWO MEN KILLED

MOTOR-VEHICLE COLLIDES ■ ' WITH RAILCAR LEVEL CROSSING SMASH (P.A.) -PALMERSTON N., Sept. 17. One man was killed and another died in hospital as the result of a level crossing accident at Longburn when a motor-car and railcar came into collision at 7.30 Ibis morning. The. victims were: — Peter William Brydon Speedy, aged 23, whose parents reside in Botanical road, Palmerston North. Albert Neil Guy Bee, aged 25, whose parents reside at Kairanga. The driver of the railcar, H. B. Chant,.of Wellington,-was slightly injured and was "removed to hospital for observation. None of the passengers in the railcar was injured. The occupants of the car were driving along Reserve road towards Longburn, when they came into collision with the southbound railcar. The motor-car was struck in the centre of the left-hand side and then carried across the cattlestop and down the line -for fully 80 yards. The point where the accident occurred, is at the junction of Reserve road with ■the main highway at Longburn. Visibility northwards from the western approach to the crossing is limited by small bunches of scrub on the left-hand side of the road. There are no warning signals at the srossing. The railcar was not derailed and was damaged only superficially. The motor-car was & a total wreck. ■
