CANCER TREATMENT

RESEARCH INTO ATOMIC RADIATION BRITISH SCIENTISTS’ WORK (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 10. The Sunday Chronicle states that a special team of British scientists has been established at a London hospital to carry out research into atomic radiation as a cure for disease. American medical and scientific, bodies will co-operate in the scheme and the scientists will use materials and equipment produced in the factories which made the American atom bombs. It is believed that this research work will have an important bearing upon the treatment of cancer. The belief that the application of atomic energy to cancer research may lead to the cure of the disease was expressed by Proefssor N. F. Mott, of Bristol University, who has just rel- - from visiting Canadian research stations. The British research project is being backed by the Government through the Medical Research Council and the cost of the preliminary work may run into £1,000,000 over a period, of years. Help in procuring the equipment and material is being made by the Atomic Energy Committee, of which Sir John Anderson is chairman.
