ARREST OF LEADER, (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) FRANKFURT, Sept. 16. American troops who raided a displaced Poles’ camp at Wetzlar broke up a gang of looters, black marketeers, and bootleggers. Sixty were arrested, including the gang’s Polish leader, Ballon, who is suspected of killing 43 Germans and three Americans. Ballon is reported to have sworn vengeance against the Germans for the slaughter of his parents and three brothers by the Nazis in Poland. He threatened to kill 10 Germans for each member of his family killed.
